Mickey Mouse was created as a replacement for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, an earlier cartoon character that was created by the Disney studio but owned by Universal Pictures. Charles Mintz served as a middleman producer between Disney and Universal through his company, Winkler Pictures, for the series of cartoons starring Oswald. Ongoing conflicts between Disney and Mintz and the revelation that several animators from the Disney studio would eventually leave to work for Mintz’s company ultimately resulted in Disney cutting ties with Oswald. Among the few people who stayed at the Disney studio were animator Ub Iwerks, apprentice artist Les Clark, and Wilfred Jackson. On his train ride home from New York, Walt brainstormed ideas for a new cartoon character.

Before the road trip take the kids to the stores so they can pick out their road trip coloring books and other activities. This is an even better choice because the kids will settle beforehand which type of activity is most interesting and the best for them. Tell them that you'll hold onto the items until the road trip and they'll spend the time until the trip in anticipation of playing with their new toys. They'll be that much more likely to stay involved with their coloring books and crayons on the trip rather than on each other, so you'll be that much more relaxed while on the drive.

We have yet to discuss comfort that your child will be studying the different colors as they color their pages. And the even more exposure your child has to coloration, the more they will learn about the usual colors of objects, and they will begin to choose specific shades for specific items, just like red apples, or oriental leaves. And, as they grow old, you will also begin to see that they will color animals the color that they can truly are. This may seem to be obvious to somebody who has noted their colors since they recall, but you had to learn that at some point and this is a great method for your child to learn theirs.
